Fondazione Romano Romanini

Romano Romanini Foundation

The Romano Romanini Foundation originates from a legacy of Dr. Ippolito Romanini, who intended to honour his father, a famous violinist and composer. The Foundation rose after the death of Dr. Romanini (4 march 1978). After the acknowledgment of the italian state in 1984, an efficient board of directors and a college of auditors have been formed.

From 1979 the Romano Romanini Foundation is establishing the Master classes of violin, viola, cello, piano, chamber music and composition by Masters of international renown: Corrado Romano and Dora Schwartzberg (violin), Gerard Ruymen and Bruno Giuranna (viola), Daniel Shafran (cello), Paolo Borciani and Franco Rossi (quartet), Maria Golia and Sergio Marengoni (piano), Franco Donatoni (composition). Since 1999 the master classes last three years.

In 1997, thanks to the Fondazione Cariplo of Milano, the "Romanini Ensemble" Orchestra was formed to improve the skills of the master classes attenders. In collaboration with Romanini Foundation, the "Cameristi Lombardi" Orchestra (concerts in USA - Metropolitan, Carnegie Hall, Kaufmann K.H. of New York -, Japan, Russia) gives to the young students of master classes the possibility to follow the profession.

In the same 1979 it was announced the first International Violin Competition "Città di Brescia", at its eighth edition under the patronage of Fondazione Cariplo of Milano. In 1995 the Romano Romanini Foundation together with Comitato Lombardia Europa Musica organized the International competition for baroque string instruments (1st prize not awarded, 2nd prize Vittorio Ghielmi). In 1990 they organized, with Philips Records, the Opera Prima Philips Competition (1st prize Massimo Quarta for the violin, Enrico Pompili for the piano).

From 1987 The Romano Romanini Foundation promotes an intense activity of concerts and organizes recitals and musical reviews opened to the young performers. Among the most important initiatives there are:
